It includes one of the characters besides Luciana from the first book and introduces a number of new characters. Instead of heading to Space Camp, Luciana is headed to a Junior Astronauts Training Camp that involves Scuba diving training and an underwater training center. This follow-up to the first Luciana book was a fun follow-up with a slightly different focus. And I kinda do wish we got to see what Claire's dad way going to do.

I also appreciate how Claire's motivations for her actions where explained, which I found interesting.

And while I wanted it to end later than it did, and I wanted to know what happens next, I did like the end and the resolution it had. There was character growth, which is always good, especially in young characrers. The story moved and progressed well, and unfolded at a good speed. And I'm glad I did, since I ended up really liking this book. However, I put this aside and kept reading. Maybe it's just me, but things don't add up here 100%. Namely, a price that makes me unsure how a nurse and a math teacher would be able to afford it, especially with other events, such as with Izzy. In this book, though, she applies to another space-related camp, one that by the way it's described makes me wonder how it wouldn't cost something. In the first book, Luci earned her way to Space Camp through an essay contest. The video was officially unveiled last week during a downlink event in which Colorado students were able to talk live with Auñón-Chancellor onboard the ISS and ask her questions about what it’s like to live and work in space. When I started reading this book, I had doubts about it's plausiblity. The video reading of an excerpt from Luciana: Braving the Deep was produced through a partnership between American Girl, Story Time From Space, and the ISS National Lab. In the book, written by Erin Teagan, Luciana attends a youth astronaut training camp, where she grows hydroponic plants (a method of growing plants without soil in a nutrient and water solution) like astronauts on the space station and scuba dives in an underwater facility like the ones where astronauts train.
